Fishing Fly

Fly fishing is a major sport and fly-tying a major hobby. Keep up with the trend and learn some new "Sharon G feather stitching" techniques!

Students will learn to layer feathery stitches, using silks of several textures, mixed with fine metallic, to get the feathers properly preened. Splitting threads will be the order of the day! Much of the top layer of feathers will be stitched in Pearsall's silk, which can be split down to a single filament. We will embrace that characteristic of the silk to "dress" our feathers. These techniques will come in handy when stitching feathers, whether still on the bird or otherwise! As an added bonus, a special technique of applying a small bit of color to natural silk will be demonstrated and used.

A gold-ribbon-embroidered- border will be stitched in silk and metallic, giving it a dimensional effect and adding elegance to the fishing fly.
