Minister:
We are here together in the sight of God to join together this Man and this Woman in holy Matrimony; which is an honorable estate, instituted of God, signifying unto us the mystical union that is between Christ and his Church: which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence and first miracle that he did in Cana of Galilee.
The union of husband and wife is intended by God for their mutual joy and that they may give to each other companionship, help, and comfort, both in prosperity and in adversity.
Marriage is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly; but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly and in the fear of God. Into this holy estate these two persons present come now to be joined.
Jay, Will you have this Woman to be your wife, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her, so long as you both shall live?
Jay:
I will.
Minister:
Carroll, Will you have this Man to be your husband, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto him, so long as you both shall live?
Carroll:
I will.
Minister:
Bless O Lord these rings and grant that they who give them and wear them may remain faithful to each other and abide in thy peace and favor and live together in love, unity and happiness with good purpose to do your will until their lives end.
Minister gives Carroll's ring to Jay.
Jay:
I, Jay, in the presence of God take you, Carroll, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death parts us. I pledge to you my faithfulness.
Jay places ring on Carroll's finger
WITH this Ring I thee wed: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Minister gives Jay's ring to Carroll.
Carroll:
I, Carroll, in the presence of God take you, Jay, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death parts us. I pledge to you my faithfulness.
Carroll places the ring on Jay's finger.
WITH this Ring I thee wed: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
(minister lights two outside candles on the candleabra, leaving the larger, center candle unlit)
Minister:
The two outside candles have been lighted to represent your lives to this moment. They are two distinct lights, each capable of going its separate way. To bring joy and radiance into your home, there must be the merging of these two flames into one.
From this time onward may your thoughts be for each other rather than for your individual selves; may your plans be mutual, your joys and sorrows shared.
As you each take a candle and together light the center candle, you will extinguish your own candles, thus having the center candle represent the union of your two lives into one flesh.
(Carroll and Jay each take one of the outside candles and together light the center candle, then extinguish the other two)
Minister:
As this center light cannot be divided, let not your lives be divided, but instead be the united testimony of a Christian home as Christ gives you light.
Let us pray.
Dear Heavenly Father be with Carroll and Jay in all their happiness, that your joy may be in them, and their joy may be full. Strengthen them in every time of trouble, that they may bear each others burdens. Give them grace when they hurt each other to recognize and acknowledge their faults and to ask each others forgiveness. Send thy blessing upon this man and this woman, that they may perform and keep the vow and covenant between them. May the home that they establish be indeed a haven of blessing and a place of peace. We ask this in Your name. Amen.
Those whom God has joined together let no man put asunder.
Jay and Carroll, as you have come together today in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God, and have given and pledged your faithfulness, each to the other, I now pronounce you husband and wife.
May GOD bless, preserve, and keep you; the Lord mercifully with his favor look upon you, and fill you with all spiritual blessing and grace; that you may so live together in this life, that in the world to come you may have life everlasting. Amen.
Now, you may kiss your bride.
