Everglades National Park caps the southern end of the Florida peninsula. It is a vast expanse of wilderness where the land gradually blends into the sea. Fresh water streams flow south to mix into salt water marshes. Pine forests give way to saw grass wetlands, and then to mangrove swamps. It is refuge for plants, rare birds, and marine life. Winter is the best season to visit this tropical landscape when the climate and the bugs are at their most agreeable.
