Dermatitis:
Dermatitis , a form of Eczema, generally results in redness,
itching or scaling of
the skin. When a rash or a reaction occurs as a result of almost any
contact with
the skin by a foreign object, the condition is referred to as Allergic
Contact
Dermatitis. "Hand eczema" which is also often referred to as Dermatitis
usually
comes in two types: an external "contact" rash or one caused by internal
skin
reaction.
Causes Of Dermatitis:
Some known causes of Dermatitis are substances such as nickel, Latex,
rubber,
hair dyes, and chromates (compounds that contain the metal chromium)
that can
be found in cement, leather, paints, anti-rustcompounds as well as some
types of
matches. If you've ever colored your hair or handled these materials
and had a
reaction on your skin, then you know. If you have kids who play outside
or find
the great outdoors a source of recreation, you know that contact with
poison ivy,
poison oak and poison sumac qualify as causes of Dermatitis. Dermatitis
is a
common skin disease all over the world. Dermatitis most commonly affects
areas on the face, neck and upper chest.
Dermatitis Statistics:
The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that almost 8 million
people
in the U.S. are affected with Dermatitis. How Can you Tell if you have
Dermatitis? Besides the symptoms described above, you should check your
family history to see if a pattern of allergies or past history of Dermatitis.
Also,
you could seek the professional opinion of your physician.
What Can You Do About It ?
Finding the cause of the reaction is the most important step to determining
what
to do. If your Dermatitis is caused by allergies, you should identify
and avoid the
causing agents. Although only 10% of Dermatitis cases are caused by
food, you
may consider asking your physician about which foods may be problematic
for
you, and then avoid those foods You should try not to scratch the area
affected by
Dermatitis to avoid infection. Taking actions to prevent rashes such
as wearing
gloves, avoiding direct contact with harsh chemicals, using moisturizers
during
dry weather, etc., are common sense measures that anyone can take to
prevent
symptoms. Sometimes, however, even eliminating the contact with that
element
that causes your Dermatitis may not completely take care of all your
symptoms.
You should also keep in mind that Dermatitis may be triggered or worsened
by
dust, fabrics, toys, tight clothes, rapid changes of temperature, sweating,
stress,
excessive exposure to water, latex or rubber gloves, soaps, detergents,
chemicals,
solvents, etc...
Treatments against Dermatitis:
Most of the ointments or creams prescribed by physicians contain
Corticosteroids. Therefore, long time usage may create various undesired
side
effects. Furthermore, such treatment often leaves stains and creates
unpleasant
odors.
Zinc Pyrithione:
Zinc Pyrithione is a natural activation of Zinc, discovered by British
and Spanish
scientists years ago. It is considered one of the most successful treatments
for
Dermatitis and other severe skin disorders in Europe. The treatment
was
introduced in the United States about 4 years ago and now is produced
here under
the name of Dermazinc. It is a complete line of products including Spray
(Also
With Scalp Applicator), Cream, Shampoo and
even bars of Soap, that can be
combined to produce a very powerful treatment to control the symptoms
caused
by Dermatitis.
The original Dermazinc Formula, contains as active ingredient only Zinc
Pyrithione and can be used for a long period of time, with virtually
no side
effects. For severe cases of Psoriasis and Dermatitis, American Dermatologists
developed a prescription strength formula called Dermazinc-Plus.
Dermazinc-
Plus contains Zinc Pyrithione and 0.05% of Clobetasol Propionate, substance
approved by the FDA for the treatment of severe skin disorders like
Psoriasis.
Dermazinc-Plus has a success rate of over 90% on the treatment against
severe
Dermatitis symptoms. After the initial treatment that takes in average
3 or 4
weeks, the patient can switch to Dermazinc original formula to maintain
the
results. Dermazinc is easy to apply, colorless and odorless. The Spray
is the main
treatment, because it penetrates the skin faster and results also come
faster. The
Cream can also be used in combination with the Spray on areas where
the skin is
too dry, to speed the process. The soap was developed for people with
the
Dermatitis on their hands and finger nails, that due to constant washing,
reduce
the effects of the Spray. It can also be used in any affected area to
speed the
process
