Born: 4/12/68, Johnson City, NY College: Boston Height: 6' 2" Weight: 190 lbs. |
Early History: Will Heyman was first exposed to Ultimate at Powell House in 1982 with future RAGE teammate Andrew Rutledge. No flicks to be seen.
College Career:
His serious Ultimate career started in the
spring semester of his freshman year at
Boston University. Joining a team
comprised of only a few non-seniors Will was forced to captain a
sparse squad which didn't advance past sectionals his sophomore year.
Although recruiting was difficult on a campus with no grass Will built
small but competitive teams his last two college seasons which both
ended up in the top half of their regions. After taking a year off
from the College scene Will started graduate school at the
University of Virginia and
played with the Yeth Hounds that spring. He ended his college
career in the game to go to the game to go to college nationals by
tearing his left ACL in the final point.
Club Career: Will started his club career the summer after graduating from BU playing with the College Brats, a team comprised of "all stars." After moving to Charlottesville at the end of the summer Virginia Will played for Blue Ridge through the fall of '91, winning the St. Patty's, tournament in Columbia SC. as well as making Easterns in the spring of '91. Prior to tearing his ACL in the spring of '92 Will played with Gimme $5 winning the Lum's Pond invitational. After taking a year off to recover from reconstructive knee surgery, Heyman played for the D.C.-Baltimore combo team, Trouble Club, who came in second in the Mid-Atlantic region to earn a spot to nationals where they finished a disappointing 1-4. The following two years Heyman played with Chesapeake who in '94 also came in second in the Mid-Atlantic region but managed to go 4-2 at nationals, losing to Double Happiness in the semi-finals, the first Mid-Atlantic team to make the semi-finals since 1984. Having moved to Philadelphia in the winter of '95-'96 Heyman has been playing with RAGE ever since.
Favorite Ultimate Moment: Beating Burning Ring of Fire in the finals of the Fall 1994 Wilmington Invitational two days after Mark Young's tragic Bicycling accident.
While not playing Ultimate: Will is finishing up his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at UVa and waiting for his security clearance so he can start working for Lockheed/Martin.
