David Grossberg #13

Born: 31 October 1969
College: University of Pennsylvania
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 165 lbs

Early History: David was often seen on the practice football fields of Westhill High School in Stamford, CT, attempting to convince his friends that there was no tackling in Ultimate.

College Career:
College Nationals '91
David began his collegiate career in 1987, joining the University of Pennsylvania Void. The Void won the Ivy league championship in 1989, and went on to College Nationals, where they missed qualifying for the semi finals by a single game, losing to a veteran Texas squad. David assumed the captaincy the Void in 1990, a year in which east coast college teams extracted their revenge on a rebuilding Void. David was deposed as captain in 1991, and happily stepped into the role of defensive specialist on the Void's powerful 1991 squad. Early that spring the Void won the B division of the Ultimate Beach Bowl at the West Palm Beach Polo Club. They went on to win another Ivy League championship, and earn another trip to College Nationals. Once again, the Void fell a single win short of the semi finals, this time losing their final pool play game to a powerful Santa Barbara squad.

At the end of his collegiate career David had determined that further success awaited him at the next level, and that he would never again let his teammates cut his hair.

Club Career: Upon leaving UPenn in 1991, David joined Philmore, a Philadelphia-Baltimore juggernaut, in their trip to the World Club Championships in Toronto. That fall, David was Philmore's designated goal-scorer in their successful drive to Nationals.

David moved to the New York area in 1992, and joined perennial Nationals wild-card Grafitti in the fall of 1993. This season was highlighted by a thrilling 17-16 comeback victory in the back-door final at Northeast regionals, thus qualifying for a trip to Nationals in San Antonio. David is proud to have been one of four Grafitti players who showed up on time for their first-day, first-round game versus New York at Nationals; a game in which New York was forced to count points against a tardy Grafitti squad, eventually starting the game at 9-0.

David returned to Philadelphia in 1995, joining RAGE in time for their trip to England for the World Club Championships, where they finished in the top 11. David makes his third trip to Nationals (with his third different team) in November 1996, when Rage becomes the first Philadelphia-area team to attend nationals.

Favorite Ultimate Moment: Throwing the winning goal versus previously undefeated, top-ranked Carleton at 1991 Collegiate Nationals.

While not playing Ultimate: David is finishing his often-interrupted undergraduate education at the the University of Pennsylvania.
