  • Board Meetings:  The PCMNY Board meets the second Monday of September and the first Monday of the month October through June at 6:30 PM in St. Joseph's Greenwich Village Parish House, 371 Sixth Avenue.

  • Peacemaker Awards Reception:  Help us choose our peacemakers for 2010.  We are seeking those whose efforts, vision, and spirit lead us on the way to peace.  One should be a person of faith whose peacemaking has reached people across the nation in his/her efforts to teach peace, make peace, and be peace.  The other should be a person of faith whose work is helping to transform metropolitan New York into the City of God.  Please nominate one or two who fit these descriptions, have inspired you, and will draw others to our cause.  Send a paragraph for each to the PCMNY office by October 20th.  Tell us why you think your choice should be honored as national or local peacemaker.  (The Reception will be held on Sunday, June 6th, 2010 in Casserly Hall, St. Joseph's Greenwich Village Church.)

  • Fall Assembly:  Save Saturday, October 24th, from 9:30 to 4:30, to join us at Fordham University Lincoln Center Campus for a full day of prayer, community building, thought-provoking presentations, and inspiration for action.  Our theme is "The Challenge of Becoming a Peace Church: Learning from the Catholic-Mennonite Dialogue."  Speakers will include Fr. Drew Christiansen, Msgr. John Radano, and Dr. Nancy Heisey, who were part of the Dialogue, and Rev. Sylvia Shirk Charles, pastor of the Manhattan Mennonite Fellowship.  Contact PCMNY for a brochure, if you haven't already received one.

  • Queens Interfaith Unity Walk:  Celebrate our unity in diversity in the most diverse county in the country.  On Sunday, November 8th, Hindus, Muslims, Jews, and Christians will be leading the Walk in Flushing, Queens.  We will gather starting at 1 PM at the Hindu Temple Society, 143-09 Holly Avenue.  At 1:30, we'll begin our interfaith experience with a half-hour presentation by the Hindu Temple Society.  We'll then process to the Muslim Center of NY for a similar presentation.  After that stop, we'll continue our procession to the Free Synagogue for a third presentation.  Our Walk will end with a final presentation at St. Michael's Catholic Church around 4 PM, followed by a reception in the church hall.  To help us prepare adequately for the reception, please let us know if you will be joining us.  Contact the Pax Christi office by phone or e-mail.

  • Holy Innocents Prayer Service:  This year we will resume a long-time tradition of PCMNY to remember victims of violence, especially children, on Monday, December 28th, after the 5:30 PM Mass at St. Joseph's Greenwich Village Church.  This is a time amidst the excitement of the Christmas holiday to gather in prayer for those for whom Jesus came, to love them and to protect them.

  • The Hermit in New York:  Mark your calendar for an afternoon that promises to be both entertaining and inspiring.  This play about Thomas Merton written by Teresa Weed and produced by the Still Point Theatre Collective of Chicago begins on a weekend in New York when Merton met with Zen scholar D.T. Suzuki.  It then weaves together the poetry and prose of his public and private lives, his spiritual development and his advocacy for peace and justice.  Join us at St. Joseph's Greenwich Village Church on Sunday, January 10th, 2010 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM.  Warm your heart in the midst of winter cold and help support a cause close to Merton's heart, the cause of peace.  This performance will benefit the work of Pax Christi Metro New York.  Ticket information to come.

  • Ash Wednesday Leafleting:  Greet thousands of penitents on February 17th, 2010 at noon outside St. Patrick's Cathedral.  Help distribute a "Reflection on Peacemaking and Repentance" as you begin the sacred season of Lent.

  • On Living Pax Christi: Called to Keep on Keeping On:  We'll be returning to St. Joseph Renewal Center in Brentwood, Long Island for our Lenten retreat in 2010 from March 6th to the 7th, with the option for an overnight stay on March 5th.  Fr. Kevin Queally, TOR, will lead us with a message of hope and encouragement as we deal with the disappointments and disillusionments of unfulfilled dreams and promises from a nation and world stuck in a culture of violence and fear.  Fr. Queally is a long-time friend of PCMNY who facilitated our Fall Assembly on Sts. Francis and Clare in 2005 and who recently resigned from his position as Vice President of Mission at St. Francis University in Loretto, PA, because the University is starting an ROTC program contrary to the Franciscan mission of peacemaking.  He is now Chaplain and Director of Campus Ministry at Alvernia University in Reading, PA.

  • 28th Annual Good Friday Way of the Cross:  Once again we will walk with Jesus on His Way of the Cross, mourning His suffering and praying for those around the world who continue to suffer from illness, discrimination, poverty, hunger, torture, war, and all forms of violence.  We begin at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, 47th Street between First and Second Avenues, at 8:30 AM on April 2nd, 2010.  Wear or carry a cross.  No other signs, please.

We are now pleased to be able to accept credit card donations.  Call us at 212-420-0250 or visit www.nycharities.org.
