the tools needed to reach people everywhere, so art can fit into all kinds of experience, beyond the straightforward museum visit. The George Costakis Gallery is as committed to sharing what we have and what we know with people who may never come to our front door, as we are to enhancing the experience of visitors in our gallery. Only a small percentage of our extensive collections can be displayed in our gallery; electronically, we can open a window into our storage spaces and research files, providing an invigorating context for visitors onsite and distant. Our goal is to provide information about the collection--images and captions, brief textes, in depth feature articles, research databases, and even sound and video footage--in a format that is clear, easy to use, and accessible to all. We want to give our electronic visitors a wealth of information to explore and satisfy their own curiosity about issues specific to their lives. And we want to offer structured formats that give us opportunity to share special insights and points of view that present selected topics in a meaningful cultural and historical context. |
