Comments: Bill: As a relatively new member of one of the member choruses (and the one to which the editor belongs, I might add) I'd like to comment on your column. We receive the newsletters regularly, and I believe many of our members do take the time to read them. I prefer to read online, and so my paper copy may indeed be left on the chair after the rehearsal.
I've been involved in Scouting for a number of years, and we have the same challenge: how to get information to people, and then how to make it interesting and be sure they read it. I believe that the efforts to increase grass-roots, local content are headed in the right direction.
I believe it is important, even given the cost, to continue to see that every member receives a copy of the newsletter. some day perhaps we will be able to custom-tailor the distribution system to provide paper copies only to those who are not able to read on line.

Comments: I think that the Chorister is a very good menas to keep all of our choruses informed. I would like to see articles in there on vocal production, blend...maybe one on warmups or ways to better help your chorus to memorize. Maybe a profile on a composer of Male Chorus music. Maybe an ongoing dialogue about Barbershop. There are many avenues for this to take to make the publication more interesting to more of the AMC of A. I find it dry and not very interesting sometimes. But remember, if you broaden the scope of the publication, that means more paper and more cost. How many of us could receive it on e-mail and save hundreds of dollars in postage each month? My chorus of 65 guys are about 3/4 online! And some even have computers!

Comments: A agree. I have 8-10 new members in my chorus. I would like to see them each receive a copy so that they can see how wide-spread we are. It may not be a recruting tool, but it may be a tool to keep our guys coming - they are not a lonely chorus, there are many, many men singing like they are, and once in a while we all sing together.
Keep the Chorister coming - hard copy, to each and every one!
Happy singing!

Comments: BRAVO Bill concerning the Chorister! I would go one step further and suggest that a copy of the Chorister should be mailed (via regular mail) to each AMCA member at his/her home address. I realize the added expense of such an endeavor but we need to "communicate" and members need to receive communications from leaders. I would suggest that a few extra copies of each chorister (rather than fewer copies) be sent to each chorus contact person. These extra copies could be picked up by chorus members to give to a prospective AMCA member to encourage and support an interest in AMCA activities.
