Ming Freeman

Ming, who was born in Taiwan, began playing keyboards at the age of eleven.   By the time he was fourteen, he and his brothers could frequently be seen performing their music on local TV shows.  Eventually they all moved to the U.S. to attend college, and continue their careers.

He decided to go out on his own in 1978, and joined a guitarist to form the "East-West Band."  This was one of the first big steps in his career, which eventually led him to travel back and forth from Taiwan to the U.S.  He went on to perform with singers like Gladys Knight, Sheena Easton, and Paula Abdul; other credits include the Tonight Show and the MTV music awards.

Besides all his professional experience, Ming has a vast educational background as well; the Huang Ming Tzeng School of Music, Cal State Northridge, Santa Monica College, and the Berkely School of Music.  He has composed and recorded two of his own CDs for use with healing, and is currently completing a contemporary jazz and a world music CD for release.

In 1994, while musical director and first keyboardist for Sheena Easton, Ming received a phone call from Yanni's tour manager.  The two met, and he was hired.  "I find Yanni's music very beautiful and inspiring.  I am the glue here --- I hold everything together; the keyboard and the orchestra parts."

Ming's solo can be seen at the 2:08 mark.
