o Apologies for the Jan. meeting date typo and "Thanks" to the callers so that you were not led astray. o Charlotte 35th Anniversary show (See comments from President Bob and more on page 5). I heard from Ed Meyer (NOS parts) that there was a waiting list for vendor spots. That sounds as if it will be a BIG show. Ed said that the Charlotte show of 1994 was profitable for vendors. o Mustang web sites: I was impressed at the number of local clubs that have their own (Called Home Pages). It is a good source of publicity and pretty cheap ($35 per year). Our son, Jim, the computer whiz, has lots of ideas for a TSMC page and would be willing to help me get one started, if the club approves. Let me know. o Comfortweave upholstery for 69: From a guy doing a concours 69 , I was told that the excellent reproduction seats sold by all the big vendors is no longer available due to the earthquake in Japan several years ago. What they are selling now is way off the mark. So hang onto those good original seats. If you have new covers, not on a car, they are quite valuable. Al Friedel |

Here it is February, already. Winter is almost over?? Hey, buck up everybody. In a few weeks the local 1999 show season will open with the Sharonville show on Sun. April 25. Note, by the way, that the St Rita's show has been moved back to Saturday August 21. Before that, if you are willing to travel, is the Charlotte show the weekend of April17. So get ready to pull that Mustang out of the garage and clean it up. Show time is just around the corner. Other news: I am now officially retired from Ford and will hopefully have more time to devote to my Mustangs and our club. Also, I want to thank all of you at the January meeting for your valuable input, not just for the newsletter, but for the future direction of the club, as well. Great stuff. Lets make it happen. Directions to Charlotte and the Speedway There are two ways to go from Cincinnati to Charlotte and both are almost equal in time and distance. Both involve a fair number of long grades (For trailer-pulling) and both are very scenic. The Speedway is in Concord, NC, about 5 miles NE of Charlotte. Most hotels are on Harris Blvd or on Tryon Road(US29). Harris intersects Tryon 1/4 mile S from I-85 Exit 45. This is the UNCC area.
The Masraum Route (Via West Virginia Turnpike): Ohio 32 to US 23S to US 52 at Portsmouth,OH to I-64 , then West Va Tpk (I-64 and I-77) to I-77 via Statesville, NC to Charlotte. Then I-85E to Exit 45A (Harris Blvd S). Miles: about 490; Driving Time : about 9 Hours .
The Friedel Route (Via Knoxville, TN.): I-75 to I-640 (Knoxville By-Pass) to I-40, then I-40 to Ashville, NC. I-26 to Spartanburg, NC. Then I-85E to Charlotte. I-85 to Exit 45A (Harris Blvd S). Miles: about 520; Driving Time: about 9 hours.
Hotel Area to Speedway: Speedway is on US29 ( N.Tryon Road ). Use US 29N or I-85E to Exit 49 (Speedway Blvd). |

Regional Group Liaison Tent A large tent, displaying the banner "Mustang Club of America Club Liaison", will be centrally -located at the Speedway. MCA members are encouraged to rest and relax in the tent. We are requested to bring our banner and put it up in the tent. A map will be posted for members to put a pin at their location so everyone can see where clubs are from. Also, games for little ones will be available. MCA encourages everyone who deserves special recognition to be identified. Recognition might be birthdays, anniversaries, especially on April 17, 1964. MCA is also thinking about other recognition such as the club with the most participation, oldest participant etc.
Volunteers MCA needs workers at the show. They need people for one 4-hour stint (only once during the show) Some clubs are volunteering as a group. (We probably could do that. ).In any event, please contact me if you can help. I have sign-up sheet to fill-in and send to Don Cox, the Club Liaison Chairman. Lets discuss at our 2-17 meeting. Incidentally, there will be "suitable souvenirs" for the volunteers.

From the Latest SEMA Action Report : Ohio Legislative Action Pending (pertaining to automotive issues):
There are 10 different bills in various legislative stages relating to vehicle maintenance and inspection, in other words, the dreaded every-two-year inspection at the Inspection Stations. Some suggest that new cars be exempt for 1 or 2 years; some would lower the repair waiver limits for older cars. One bill calls for a 1-year delay in the whole program. One bill says "Repeal the entire program and asks the State Director of Environmental Protection to negotiate alternatives to the program with the U. S. E. P. A. There are 2 bills that just want to repeal the law with no alternatives.
Clearly, there seems to be a considerable concern over vehicle inspection, presumably due high voter dissatisfaction with things as they are. AMEN.
There are 2 bills relating to inoperable vehicles: One calls for a township zoning inspector to obtain a salvage certificate of title to dispose of a vehicle removed under the township's nuisance abatement authority. The other says "Amend the township junk vehicle law to include "junk" collector's vehicles for storage, disposal, or removal from public or private property". (That sounds pretty ominous, but I'll keep you posted if anything more develops.)
There are several bills in other states which attempt to define "Classic Car" ,"Street Rod", "Historic Vehicle" etc. Why, you ask, are legislatures spending their time on such stuff? It is all related to the need for rational exemptions to environmental and nuisance vehicle laws. The whole thing is pretty convoluted. |
