A Message from the Editor:

Dedication

I am constantly amazed at the number of dedicated, hard-working people there are in our old-car hobby.Name any car club and there are many folks who spend long hours working on the business of running the club or putting-on a show(without any compensation, except the gratitude of their fellow hobbyists). Doris and I are members of 5 clubs and the story is the same in all of them: lots of hours devoted to keeping things going. There are a few paid positions in the national organizations, but the great majority of the work of the national clubs is done by volunteers.

The activity, other than club officers' jobs, that entails the most work is, of course, the shows. All of us know that to put on a quality show requires loads of people-hours. Think of the time it takes to do Charlotte. In 1995, Jim Osborn was the General Chairman of the 30th Anniversary Show. He stopped running his business and became a full-time organizer for a whole year. The 35th Anniversary Show will undoubtedly be smooth-running because of Jim's hard work in 1995 and, until his death, in 1999 as well. Jim is just one of many who have dedicated large blocks of time to the Charlotte Show. We in TSMC gain several benefits from this effort. Not only will those of us who attend the show have a great time, but since all the work of the show is unpaid , the net profit from the show goes into the treasury of MCA to help improve the national and the regional clubs such as ours. MCA is non-profit.

Car shows are very unselfish processes. We work hard to help others have a good time at our show and, in turn, they work hard so we can have fun at theirs Later in this issue is a list of committee chairs who need help. Please volunteer .

Al Friedel

President's Corner:

While on one of my many visits to King's Ford, I spotted two new Saleen Roadsters on the showroom floor. One was black and the other was chrome yellow.Wow. Talk about a couple of hot-looking cars. They were both knock-outs that will definitely draw stares when their lucky buyers hit the streets.

King's Ford just acquired the Saleen franchise after the former Cincinnati area Saleen Dealer gave it up. After speaking with the sales guys from King's, it is pretty obvious that they are really enthusiastic about their Saleens and hope to sell them in volume.

Sales Consultant Freeda Floyd was appointed the dealership Saleen Specialist by Bob Ring, the Dealer. We plan to have Freeda bring a Saleen to an upcoming TSMC meeting to make a presentation.

You know, now may be the time to buy a Saleen before their value skyrockets in the same manner as the Shelbys. After all, when you think about it, there are a lot of similarities between the two car histories. Who knows??? Only time will tell.

Honorary Member of Tri-State Mustang Club

Leonard Simson

Died March 20, 1999 Age 83

Leonard had been in poor health in recent years and had not been active in the club nor had he shown his Mustang for some time. Thus, many newer members probably did not know him. His 1966 bronze Convertible was often seen at local shows in years past. It was a very spectacular color and he and his wife, Rose were very proud of it. Leonard and Rose had been married for 54 years. They have a daughter, Debbie and two grandchildren who live in Virginia.

To give an indication of the true place that the 1966 convertible had in the Simpsons' world, it was in the funeral procession directly behind the hearse.

Leonard also had a 1965 coupe that was undergoing restoration and was almost finished.

He will be missed.
