VELMA MURPHY BRENNAN died May 14, 2006, in Houston, TX. She was born in Houston on September 6, 1909. Receiving her undergraduate degree from Rice University, she then completed a masters' degree from University of Houston. She taught in HISD for approximately 30 years, retiring in 1979 from Lee High where she was chair of the English Department. Velma is survived by her daughter, Christiana Birchak and husband Robert; grandson, Bill Birchak and wife Tina; great-grandchildren, Brennan and Jacquelyn Birchak; and grandson, Frank Birchak and wife Tahra. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at The Settegast-Kopf Company, where also, a celebration of Mrs. Brennan's life will be observed at 10 A.M. Wednesday, May 17, 2006, with interment following at Forest Park Lawndale.
