(Ruby) Earle Jensen, 76, died Sunday, Feb.1, a week after
being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her husband of 60 years, Alfred F.
Jensen, died Oct. 9, 2003.
She was
born Feb. 11, 1927, to Ella Freeberg Greenway (later Comstock) and Earl Greenway
and was raised in El Campo. Her son, Paul Alfred Jensen, and his wife, Kathi,
Austin, and her grandson, Peter Crossfield Jensen, a graduate student in
computer science at Georgia Tech, survive her.
Earle was a
devoted member of Park Place Lutheran Church, where she and Al began singing in
the choir in 1956. Earle became Choir Director in 1973 and was a member of the
Worship Committee. She was a gourmet cook, grew beautiful roses, and provided
love and care to many cats and birds over the years. She and Al traveled around
the world until his health declined.
She sang
with the Houston Symphony Chorus for many years and was recognized in 1993 for
40 years of dedication. For at least 20 years, she spent countless hours as
Wardrobe Mistress.
Last fall,
Hermann Memorial Southeast honored Earle for her long volunteer career at the
hospital. Twice weekly for 40 years, she devoted her energy and remarkable
efficiency to the hospital’s emergency room.
Her family
is grateful for Earle’s friends and her hospital, church, and music families
who surrounded her with love and attention that eased the pain of her illness.
A memorial service is set for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, at Park Place Lutheran
Church, 8130 Park Place Blvd., 77017. Friends are asked to honor Earle with
memorial contributions rather than flowers, either to her church or to the
Auxiliary c/o Volunteer Services (ER) at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital,
11800 Astoria Blvd., Houston 77089.
