Renee Bourgoyne Feeney, beloved,
mother, grandmother and great grandmother, entered into rest on Saturday, the
8th of December 2007 at the age of 96. Renee was born to René Jules and Ora
Lee Norton Bourgoyne in Smithville, Texas, on the 2nd of February 1911. Renee
was graduated from the College of Industrial Arts in Denton, Texas (now Texas
Women's University) in 1931, where she earned a bachelor's Degree in Speech
and Drama. She continued her education at the University of Houston earning a
Masters in Education, and then at the Texas State College for Women (also now
Texas Women's University) where she earned her Masters in Library Science. In
her earlier years she directed theaters at Humble Oil and Rice University,
working with the likes of Margo Jones during the forefront of her career in
Houston theater. She served as the Librarian at Jeff Davis High School, and
Jesse Jones High School, retiring from Lamar High School in 1981. Renee was a
founding member of The Congress of Houston Teachers and a member of First
Baptist Church of Houston. Left behind to cherish her memory are her two
daughters, Sharon Carano and her husband Richard of Newport Beach,
California, and Melanie Fenner and her husband Hal of Port St. Lucie,
Florida; four grandchildren, Dr. Frank Roland and his family of Doylestown,
Pennsylvania, Mark Carano and his family of Short Hills, New Jersey, Ashley
Roland Nagel and her family of Cary, North Carolina, Melanie Carano Kermode
and her family of Overland Park, Kansas; and eight great grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from nine
o'clock until ten o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 12th of December,
in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in
Houston. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following at ten
o'clock in the morning in the Jasek Chapel where Dr. Glen Willingham will
serve as officiant. The interment will follow, via escorted cortege, at
Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. The family wishes to express their deep
appreciation to Brenda Washington and Parl Lee Dunham, whom dedicated
themselves to Renee's care and wellbeing for the past several years. Their
dedication and special care will always be remembered by the family. In lieu
of usual remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that contributions
in Renee's memory be directed to a hospice organization of one's choice
and/or to The Congress of Houston Teachers, 6802 Mapleridge, Suite 2058,
Bellaire, TX, 77401.
