John Lee Wait III John Lee Wait III of Lakeway, was born March 26,th 1943 and passed away October 7th. Most would have know him as Dr. John Lee Wait III MD, one of the few remaining country doctors to treat the common man. May he be remembered for his "love of life," his great humor, his deep compassion and his compelling gift of storytelling. Dr. Wait grew up on a ranch in the Almeda area of Houston and as a cowboy at heart, became known as the "Country Singing Doctor," with his guitar in hand, he taught all who crossed his path. John Lee Wait III MD, who had been retired from the practice of Internal Medicine for several years, graduated from Texas A & M in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He continued his medical education at Stephen F. Austin University with a master's degree in biology. Using both his science degrees, he worked for a pharmaceutical company and then he taught science in the Beaumont, Texas ISD. Realizing his dream of becoming a physician, he pressed on and attended the internationally known medical school at the University of Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico from 1971-75, graduating with a Medical Science degree. Next, he began training as an intern and resident where he served at the College of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. Rushing to get back to Texas, his internship took him to Texas Tech University's Medical School in El Paso where he specialized in family practice. Dr.Wait's residency in Internal Medicine followed at the Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey, which is an affiliate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Dr. Wait's Texas roots, again, and a genuine love for the Hill Country, brought him back to his private Internal Medicine practice in Austin, where he practiced for nearly 25 years. Preceded in death are his parents, whom he dearly loved, John and Maurine Wait Jr. of Lakeway.
