Husband - Tim Johnson
Daughter - Erica Johnson 18 years old, a freshman at Texas A& M
After graduating from the University of Houston with a BA in Biology &
Chemistry, I spent the first 15 years of my career teaching school, and
loving it. I taught in Bryan while my first husband finished his degree at
Texas A&M, and later in Spring Branch ISD. I was Science Department
Chairperson at Stratford High School for the last 7 years of my teaching
days. I got my Master's during that time and was teaching AP chemistry. Mr.Teter would have been amazed!
I divorced my first husband and remarried, and my second husband and I
started a staffing business. I eventually left teaching to join that
business, not because I was burned out on teaching - I loved the
classroom and the interaction with the students, but I was needed in the
business to stabilize the internal systems while my husband was doing
outside sales. The business began to grow, and it was fun and challenging.
We had an office in Houston and one in Dallas. Then the oil crunch of the
80's hit, my husband went through a mid-life crisis, and I was single again.
This was a strange place to find myself since I believed that one should
fall in love with the perfect man and live happily ever after. I was left
with a company that been devastated by the drop in oil prices. I spent the
next two years bringing my company back. For the last five years, Steverson
Staffing Services has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Woman Owned
Businesses in Houston. So we did make it back.
In 1992, I got remarried to a man named Tim Johnson, a graphic designer. In
October, 1998, I gave birth to a 15 year old. Erica, Tim's daughter, came to
live with us in Houston. We were thrilled. We had three years with her
before she went off to A&M this past fall. She loves it there. This summer
she will be counseling at Camp Peniel, a Christian Youth Camp at Marble
Falls, Texas. I serve on the board of directors for the camp. This is the
camp where my mother did the cooking in the summers. I believe that the
influence of Lord Jesus Christ through Camp Peniel is the reason that I am
where I am today.
