Biography of Sharon K. Hillis

Well, I probably won’t be able to attend the reunion, but I thought maybe I should at least send in my biography to add to the list. It has been fun to read all of those sent in earlier, and to see how differently our life-paths have gone. Some have certainly made impressive marks on the world in general, while others have had a more subtle impact on the world. I definitely fall into the latter category!

I left Jones, and began a 2-year course in Dental Hygiene at the University of Texas Dental Branch, in the Houston Medical Center. After graduating in 1964, I began a career that would span 37 years in the dental field. I married in 1972, and divorced in 1986—with no children. I again married in 1989, and am still happily married to Bill.

We started our own business (home-based) in 1990, H&H Dental Co., and both sell and service dental equipment here in the Greater Houston area. I continued working as a Dental Hygienist until December 2001. One of my long-time patients offered me a position in their small realty company, as Controller, and I decided to take the plunge and make a career change. I only work about 27 hours a week for that company, and still do all of the office management for our own business—so, I have a real shortage of leisure time.

Bill also never had children, so our family now consists of four parrots and two very old dogs. While I never made great waves in my life, I wouldn’t change a thing. It has been a good life, and I have been blessed by having very few rough spots along the way.
