I left Jesse H. Jones and went immediately into the drafting
business with Southwest Pipe. Today, 40
years later, I am still in the same business although I have changed employers
many times and now produce my drawings via computer as opposed to the old
pencil and triangle method. I am not
sure if learning all these new computer programs is keeping me young or whether
they will be the death of me! Business
has been up and down over the years - the chemical and oil businesses tend to
have their good and bad times. When
it's good it's generally very, very good for me and when it's bad I just have to
tighten my belt and ride it out.
I have been married a couple of times, single for a couple
of decades and then six years ago remarried for the third time. This one is a keeper! I spent the first 30 odd years after
graduation mainly working and continuing my education. The past 7 years, since meeting my current
wife, I have been having some fun too.
My wife is from New Zealand and has traveled around the world and has
gotten me to take several vacations both within the U.S. and overseas. Prior to this I hadn't taken a vacation in
30 years.
As in my school days, I still have a deep love of cars and
have gone through many corvettes over the years. I have just sold my classic 1960 'vette that I spent over six
years restoring and have the new 2001 "bad" ZR6. I also love riding my Harley.
My first marriage produced two children both in their
thirties now. My daughter has given me
two grand children - a granddaughter aged 11 and a grandson aged 6. My son has just recently married and no
offspring as of yet.
My wife and I have purchased some land in the Texas Hill country and hope to build there within the next year and then retire within the next five years. Upon retirement we are planning on spending several months of the year traveling the U.S. in our RV.
