My 40 Years of Highlights….. I clearly remember the evening my parents attended their 40th class reunion….. However, if my memory serves me correctly (and it does so less and less these days), they were OLD at the time!!!!!!! So how can it be that plans are underway for our very own 40th class reunion? Aren’t we still kickin’ and enjoying a measure of good looks…. or am I dreaming again? Ahhhh, the mysteries of life!!!!! And yes, time has indeed flown while we were having fun!!!!

The first 20 years of my post graduate life centered around home, hearth, and family. Married in 1963, our family increased with the births of two wonderful sons; the first in 1967 and the second in 1968. Those blessed events changed our lives forever; but let me quickly point out that I’ve loved every minute of motherhood (well, almost every minute). Thinking we were escaping the city, our family moved from southeast Houston to Conroe in the summer of 1972, where we embraced the activities of church, school, sports, and community life.

During the fall of 1983, I found myself divorced and single handedly raising those same wonderful sons, by then teenagers (this is the part of parenthood that turned my brunette locks to silver!!!!). Necessity being the mother of invention, I soon embarked on a somewhat more financially lucrative career than that of stay-at-home mom. I worked for the Chamber of Commerce for eight years, planning community events and managing the office. An opportunity to change professions surfaced in 1991, and I eagerly moved into the field of banking. Thus far, I’ve survived climbing interest rates, mergers, acquisitions, and most recently, declining interest rates, while assisting the President and Executive Vice President of Woodforest National Bank. In the meantime, and much to my amazement, those same two wonderful sons matured into handsome, successful family men.

In 1986, romance once again blossomed and I plunged headfirst into a second marriage. This unexpected turn of events was created by the love of my life, Larry Davis. Our blended family has grown to include spouses of our 4 children and 3 beautiful granddaughters. Loving the role of grandparents, we look forward to adding more grandchildren to the family as the years unfold, that is if our children prove to be more productive. Larry and I have enjoyed the blessing of a happy marriage. Our shared love of music has created lots of opportunities to entertain for churches and organizations and we’ve also been quite active in area theater groups.  Some of my favorite roles have included Truvy/Steel Magnolias, Charlotte/Charlotte’s Web, Mrs. Paroo/Music Man, Mother Superior/Sound of Music, and perhaps my favorite character of all, Mother Superior in productions of Nunsense I and Nunsense II. (After portraying all those nuns, I’ve wondered if perhaps I might have missed my “calling” in life; but it’s a little late to consider entering a convent!) I also take pleasure in assisting with children’s theater productions once or twice a year and I recently began teaching piano in my spare time. The last two years may have been the most fulfilling of all as we’ve had the opportunity to pastor a small historic Baptist church in Anderson, Texas. As a young girl, I often dreamed of becoming a Pastor’s wife some day. Now that my childhood dream has come true and I’m a “Pastorette”, I’ve wondered if this means I’m finally all grown up, or if it’s just, as Carol Mitchell mentioned in her bio, the fact that God’s not through with me yet!!!! I’m convinced it’s the latter because there is still much to accomplish!!!!! (not the least of which is to lose 15 lbs. before our reunion weekend!!!!!!!!)

Nonetheless, 15 lbs. lighter or not, I’m really looking forward to seeing many of our Jones classmates in April. And by the way, I’ll gladly look at pictures of your grandbabies if you’ll take a few minutes to look at pictures of mine!!!!!  Could there be a sweeter way to spend an evening or two?

Thanks for the opportunity to reflect!!!!!

See you soon, I hope!!!
