Ultimate News, Winter 2002, Volume 2 - Issue 1

Introduction:

Now that the holidays are over and the temperature has finally dropped, I am starting to get a number of inquiries about the Indoor League.  So, I guess I better disseminate some information.   Here goes:

This will be the fifth year we've offered an indoor ultimate outlet.  For the first few years it was a single night of pick-up.  Last year we added a second night and played pick-up on Tuesdays and ran a 4 team indoor league on Thursdays.  This year I would like to expand the league to 6 teams and use both nights for games.  If we don't get enough players for 6 teams, then we will keep last year's format (i.e. Tues. - pick-up/Thurs. - league).

This year the teams will be formed via the "Balanced Hat Draft" method.  There will be no cliques.   Instead all players will sign up individually and will be placed on a team by a highly informed and skilled Draft Committee.  Couples can play on the same team.  Other teammate preferences can be listed on the registration form and will be honored if possible.  Any attendance quirks (e.g. "can only play on Thursdays," "will miss January," "can't play on Fat Tuesday") should also be listed on the registration form.  Team size will range from seven to nine players.  Note that I do not intend to have sliders this season, so definitely register and get on a team!

Registration will take place this week and next.  You can register in-person at the gym tonight (1/3) or next Tuesday or Thursday.  Pick-up and registration will be available from 8 PM to 10 PM. If you would like to be on a team, but can't make it to the gym in the next two weeks, you can pre-register by emailing your request BEFORE next Thursday (1/10). Pre-registering obligates you to paying the $5 registration fee, so don't forget to bring it to your first game.

The season will start on January 15 and will last 7 weeks. Each team will play one game a week. There will be two Thursday games (one hour each), and a single marathon game on Tuesdays  (two hours long). The month of March will be used for make-up games and/or playoffs (if so desired).

Below are the general playing details that I sent out last year.  Since it's good general information, I'm including it again (with updated dates).  If you read it last year, feel free to skip it this year.
