It was a fun demostration, really. Here was a TV showing a live video of the front view of moving vehicles. Connected to it was a computer receiving the video and automatically reading the license plate number of those vehicles!
Underlying this fun demo is a highly advanced technology that could potentially work wonders for you. ISS now has the technology to automatically read license plate numbers off black-and-white images of vehicles. This technology is the result of our cutting-edge reserach in neural networks and image processing technologies.
Just think of the potential applications. Automatic toll collection, security applications and vehicle monitoring, just to name a few. The cost and time savings of using this automated system, in place of a manual system, could be quite substantial.
Now, who said useful, cutting-edge technology can't be fun?
