SINGAPORE -- After weeks of uncertainty and speculations, details on Meng's trip to the US are finally emerging. Barring unforseen circumstances, Meng will arrive in Santa Barbara Airport with his wife, HRH Princess Cindy, on 11 Aug 98 at approx 2pm.
It has been known that Meng is attending graduate school at the University of California at Santa Barbara. But details of the trip were unavailable until today.
All the major issues seem to have been resolved. The couple have received their visas and Meng's Exit Permit, and booked the flights and temporary accomodations. There are numerous loose ends to tie, but there seem to be no major problems ahead. Meng stops working today and Cindy on 31 July.
Meng and Cindy will fly off on 11 Aug from Singapore at 8am. Upon arrival, they will reside temporarily in the Tahitian Apartments. It is at 6739 El Colegio, Goleta. The phone number is 805-968-5278. The couple expects to be there for one week.
In a press release, Meng and Cindy express their sincere and utmost gratitude to all their family and friends for their care and support. "We couldn't have done it without them", said the statement.
No future plans have been announced at this point, but it is understood that school starts only on 17 Sep and Meng would like to take the time to familiarize with the school and the surrounding cities, and visit his friends if he can. He expects that getting a car may present some major problems, though.
Not surprisingly, major Asian stock markets were unmoved by this announcement.
