Are we doing enough to protect the beauty and abundance of natural resources so instrumental in our success? Not always. Too often we fail to enforce the laws we created to keep our air and water clean; we miss opportunities to protect our farmlands and open spaces, our forests, our coasts, and the places where we live, work, and play. If we want our states future generations to enjoy what we have today, North Carolinians need to commit now to the protection of our ecological assets. This Greenprint for North Carolina offers clearly defined goals that should be met by the legislature and administration. In November 2000, thirteen environmental groups got together to discuss what we thought North Carolina needed to do to make sure our environment and public health were protected. These are the recommendations we came up with for clean water, clean energy, healthy air, good government, coastal habitat, smart growth, and forests. They were distributed to the legislature and the administration, and we are working to promote their implementation. Greenprint for North Carolina [929k PDF] |
