Principles of Non-Discrimination & Environmental JusticeThe Conservation Council of North Carolina and the Conservation Council of North Carolina Foundation are committed to the principles of non-discrimination, equal opportunity, and environmental justice. We do not discriminate against individuals, communities, or organizations on the basis of race, color, sex, age, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or physical/mental disability. We commit to these principles in all aspects of our organization, including staffing policies, board or committee membership, individual membership, and in other program and activity administration. The Council and the Foundation are dedicated to pursuing the principles of environmental justice throughout all of our programs and activities. These principles include a commitment to: ecological protection; public policies based on mutual respect and justice for all people without discrimination; responsible use of land and resources in the interest of a sustainable environment; the right to clean air, land, water, and food; and the right of individuals to participate as equal partners in the decision-making arena.
Nan Freeland was a long time friend and Board member. She passed away in November 2004, and will be sorely missed. The Conservation Council Board passed the following resolution in her honor.
