Ghia vitals:

* 1962 Karmann Ghia coupe
* 1200, 40-horsepower engine (but our Ghia has a good attitude!)
* Color: black (was originally off-white, long, long ago)
* Hot off production line: May 7, 1962
* We purchased it: July 1984
* Original engine (36,500 miles on it)
* Original 6-volt electrical system

Partial list of work to date (especially in last two years):

* Painted June 1994
* Lots of body work to get rid of the usual rust spots
* Replaced all rubber
* Rebuilt carburetor, starter, generator, horns, and heater boxes (whew!)
* Installed new headliner
* Replaced headlight units
* Made drain tubes for front and rear glass
* Installed new upholstery
* Installed new carpet
* Cleaned and repacked wheel bearings (front)
* Cleaned and repacked wiper motor

How we obtained our Ghia:

Having been hit hard with Ghia fever, we were searching car ads very diligently. Saw a lot of Ghias with too much rust. Finally found a guy who was in the military and was being sent (ironically) to Germany. He could only take one car and chose his family car. The Ghia thus became ours! We are the third owners.

Current status:

We'd like to convert the Ghia to a 12-volt system, as well as install a larger (1500) engine. Right now it's mostly a daytime car, because driving at night (or in the rain) with headlights on taxes the electrical system too much.

Our Ghia's most recent words:

"Cyberspace or bust!"
