My last trip back I fell in love with old VWs and bought a Westphalia for my time in the states that I ended up giving to my boyfriend when I went back to school cause he loved it so much! I came across the Ghia getting parts for it and fell in love and knew then that it would be my next baby. I am actually curious about updating the car though since I am really very new to old VWs. I wouldn't want to be criticised for killing its beauty, but I was wondering about some things I had read like dropping in a quicker engine, also wondering about modernizing it with things like a new heat/cooling system. Possibly even cruise control and the like. Definitely new seats and hopefully an updated console and such as well. I LOVE the body but have seen few interiors in good condition. Two major questions would be 1) Is this all possible? and 2) How much would I realistically be looking at spending? Previously I was a kid who "tricked out" foreign import race cars and know a bit more about vehicles than some chicks, but I have never done a car by myself and never an older vehicle. PLEASE HELP! Any advice is welcome. It has a 1648cc motor, new alternator, new oil pump,electronic egnition (no points), IRS transmission, new shocks, salt and pepper carpet, white empi rims, it has a 67 rear seat, skat shifter. Has front end damage but nothing major, floor pans are in decent shape, not much rust. I also have a complete 67 Ghia that is stripped to bare with all original parts just disassembled. Has original swing axel transmission. just needs to be put back together and painted. I also have a 68 Ghia with wrecked front end, doors are shaved and so are the rear taillights. Has adjustable front end and crossdrilled rotors. new IRS transmission with urethane mounts. I also have other parts; underdash AC unit, Gas heater, extra seats, quarter windows (all glass w/ chrome). plus many many more parts.
