I wanted a Ghia since I was in High School (class of 84) I was never able to afford one so I had to drive a motorcycle. I went in the service and went to germany for six years, never did see many bugs or ghias there. I then moved to Utah and hooked up with a friend that was into Bugs. I bought a 68 Bug and have been restoring it, it blew the motor and so it sits in the driveway. I went to the Bug Swap meet in May of this year and low and behold a 1966 Ghia was for sale. The guy wanted 2000 for it and I was scrambling to find the money for the car when I found another ghia (1970) for sale. I looked at the car and talked the girl down on the price and tada, I finally got my Ghia.

Cleaned the entire car top to bottom (the previous owner was a smoker!)
Put a set of Empi 8 spokes wheels on it
Redid the front brakes (new rotors, pads, bearings)
Bought a 1835 Engine for it (sitting in my other car till I get done testing)
Installed twin quiet Pack Mufflers and header system (Nice!)
Pulled out generic Speakers and replaced with Kenwood 9902s
Tore out the Cheap AM/FM and put in a Sony CDX 4030
Cleaned the Engine from Top to Bottom
Replaced Dist Cap with cool see thru Yellow Cap
Obtained from VW Museum in Germany Specs on the car from top to bottom
Installed Power Amp
Added Petronix Pointless Ignition
Put in the the 1835 with Weber Progressive Carb
Have Rockers Replaced
Have Rear Bottom Quarters Replaced
Replace Tires with 195/50/15s (the 165s Rub)
Replace Shocks all around
Lower Front end with Drop Spindles
Tint Windows
Install Alternator
Replace Seats with Nicer Ones
Replace Dash
Get Painted Red
This car is my favorite of my four VWs. I drive it daily and will only put it away for the winter and next year when I get stationed in Korea for a Year. The Car Is on its fourth owner me, the second and third were in the same family and had the car for the last 15 years.
