"Restored" by previous owner in 1990 to the present condition. I have put about 600 miles on the car since I got it. It stays street legal at all times - ya never know when you have to go for a spin. The car stays in my paint booth in my shop - nice and cozy. All I have done to it is adjust the brakes, change the oil and tune it up! Don't you just love them whitewalls?
Total pan-off restoration scheduled for late this winter. I have been collecting parts for total back to stock restoration. I purchased a 1967 coupe for some of the hard to find parts, but the 67 coupe is still in a very restorable condition. This date may get pushed back due to the ongoing work on my 73 Ghia coupe. (The 73 is complete and very rust free, totally complete and straight as an arrow with an airconditioner!)
I looked for about 16 years for a 67 Ghia 'vert. When I saw an add for serious inquiries only, I thought I would not have much of a chance. Much to my suprise, the add must have scared off the other people. After some negotiations, it and my Toyota truck full of parts came home with me. With my son driving the truck, that slow drive home was what Vdub dreams are made of! It always gets lots of looks and thumbs up which makes me feel great, also.
This one feels very much at home with us and her sisters: A 1967 coupe, two 1968 coupes(both run and drive) and the 73 coupe, not to mention the bugs (I daily drive a restored 68 bug, soon to be replaced by the "slightly customized" 73 Ghia Coupe).
1. Left front profile - Note missing chrome from windshield and sides of body.
These parts are in my shop waiting for the "full restoration" to start in
Winter. Also note the German license plate that was "retrieved" from a German
Salvage yard by the previous owner when he went to the VW museum.
2. Engine - not the original one, but the original is in my shop awaiting
total rebuild. Yes, the complete aircleaner assembly is in shop, also.
Try to find that part in your local salvage yard! This engine is a 73 DP
with a pair of weber 32ICTs, a 009 distributor, extractor with single
quiet pack muffler, otherwise stock. Runs pretty good, but I don't drive
it hard with the skinny bias-ply whitewalls. They are really slippery!
3. Right side looking in door. Note cheesy carpet and missing wood
grain vinyl dash insert. Seat covers front and rear are original.
4. Left full profile - love that profile - only thing better than looking at
it is driving it!
5. Rear end with hood closed. Check out them back-up lights and
those bumpers. Miles and miles of chrome.
6. Interior shot standing at the rear of car looking forward. That
Sapphire even works - sometimes. The interior light even works when you open
the doors. How about those seat belt attachments. VW should include
instructions printed on the belts. Everybody has to get educated on how to
lock/unlock them! Other 67 VW owners know what I am talking about.
