Ghia Vitals

* 1971 Karmann Ghia Coupe
* Color : Red, recently restored
* 209,000 original miles
* Same drivetrain
* Rebuilt the engine at 117k miles and replaced one valve head at 206k miles.
* Interior 95% original, just need to replace the dash face and dash top (cracked).
* Biggest problem was rust, so I had all the rusted areas replaced.
You won't believe who did the restoration - Maaco!!, in Bethlehem , PA.
I was having my Dodge painted there and they had a yellow convertible Ghia they just finished. It turned out that one of their body guys was a Porsche/Ghia nut.
He jacked the body off the Chassis about 5" and replaced all the rust underneath, which included gutting the interior, and replaced all the body panels I supplied him. I checked on the car once a week for almost 3 months, and the labor and paint came to only $2100, using their top of the line paint job. Needless to say, I have my car looking great and I didn't have to break the bank to do it.

How this Ghia was obtained

This Ghia has been in the family since new. It was my Dad's and I learned to drive on it when I was 14. At 14, my Dad didn't know I was driving his car. We used to sleep-out in the summer time, push the car away from house and go for a spin on the country roads of Eastern Pa. Logged over 2500 miles before getting caught. I guess you could say its a family heirloom, but then so is the riding mower I still have from when I was 10 years old. It just keeps cutting the grass to this day.
