ORACLE YEARBOOKS FROM THE PAST

Lafayette's Oracle yearbook began as a small booklet issued several times throughout the year comprising the modern-day equivalents of school newspaper, literary magazine, and yearbook. The June issue each year would highlight photos and the accomplishments of the graduating seniors.
The staff and students of Lafayette from the beginning felt the need to chronicle the life of the school and her students. Vol. I No. 1 of the Lafayette Oracle (pictured at right) was published in December, 1903, and contains short stories written by the students, a report from each homeroom, and comments on the sports teams of the day.
Beginning in 1924, the Oracle took on the form of a yearbook as we now know it: a bound hard- or soft-cover book featuring photographs of the graduating class, underclassmen, sports teams and school clubs. The small booklet version of the Oracle continued to be published, though less frequently each year, serving the function as school newspaper until the mid-1930s, at which time the school's Triangle student newspaper was formed under the direction of Mr. (later Dr.) Irwin Himmele.
