The Lafayette Alumni Triangle, the official newsletter of the LHS Alumni Association, is published twice each year, generally in the fall and the spring. Getting each issue to our almost 8,000 known alumni is a mammoth undertaking.
The process begins with the dues and notes received after the last newsletter issue. The source of the "Notes from Our Classmates" column is the slip that accompanies each dues check, or e-mails sent to our editor at LafayetteAlumni@aol.com. These notes need to be read and edited for possible inclusion in the newsletter. Other articles are assigned to alums or faculty to write; sadly, the obituaries are reviewed; old yearbooks are perused for the photo gallery on Page 8; and on it goes.
The newsletter is now written and edited electronically on a PC. Again, this is no small feat, and after extensive proof-reading, a photo-ready copy is sent to the printer, Mike Cimato (LHS '67) of Rosen Printing. A web version is sent to our webmaster.
After printing, the thousands of copies of the newsletter are delivered to the "Old Plant" and await the arrival of the alumni volunteers to apply the mailing label to each and every copy mailed out. Alumni-Faculty liaison Doug Alderdice has the demanding task of updating the alumni database and producing ZIP-coded sequential mailing labels. He then guides the alumni in producing 25 or 26 boxes of mail, sorted by ZIP code and state zones: a pile of mail that weighs almost a quarter ton! Below are some shots of a typical mailing as it is almost ready to take to the post office:
