HAZUSNET-USA
The Northeast States Emergency Consortium (NESEC) in partnership with the Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has created HAZUSNET-USA as a discussion group for those interested in HAZUS-MH.
HAZUSNET-USA is an unmoderated list service (listserv) open to anyone interested in HAZUS-MH. People can subscribe or unsubscribe to the list via-email. Please note that the opinions expressed on HAZUSNET-USA are those of individual participants and do not represent the official view and policy of NESEC, MCEER or FEMA.
Common questions and answers about the HAZUSNET-USA listserv
Q: What is the HAZUSNET-USA listserv?
A: The HAZUSNET-USA listserv is an e-mail discussion group. Once you subscribe
to the list, you can easily send messages to all the other HAZUSNET-USA subscribers
at once, some of which my answer your message in turn. Thus, users of HAZUS-MH
can easily communicate with each other without having to assemble or maintain
a long list of e-mail addresses.
Q: How do listservs work?
A: First, you must "subscribe" to the HAZUSNET-USA listserv (see below).
Once subscribed, you can send messages to everyone else on the listserv by simply
sending an e-mail to the listserv address: .
When the listserv receives your e-mail, it automatically distributes it to all
the other subscribers. Similarly, you will receive all e-mails sent to the listserv
from other people. In this way, large discussions can take place between many
people, and everyone can be informed about HAZUS issues simultaneously.
Please note that there is one listserv e-mail address for sending messages to
the discussion group, and another e-mail address for subscribing and unsubscribing.
The latter e-mail address is computer automated, and will not relay messages
to the HAZUSNET-USA group.
Q: Who should subscribe to HAZUSNET-USA?
A: HAZUSNET is a national listserv available to anyone with an e-mail
address and an interest in HAZUS-MH and GIS. Upcoming events, references, stories,
technical questions, project ideas, and anything else that relates to HAZUS-MH
can and should be posted on HAZUSNET-USA. Remember, a listserv is only as good
as the participants who use it!

HAZUS-MH
HAZUS-MH is a software program which uses ESRI ArcGIS Geographic Information System (GIS) to estimate damages from hurricanes, floods and earthquakes. HAZUS-MH is funded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through a Cooperative Agreement with the National Institute of Building Sciences.
Many federal, state and local governments, including NESEC, use HAZUS-MH to analyze the type and extent of damage which may occur due to hurricanes, floods and earthquakes. We utilize this information to reduce the impacts of hurricanes, floods and earthquakes through mitigation and emergency preparedness planning.
HAZUS-MH is available on CD-ROM and requires ESRI's ArcView and Spatial Analyst to run. HAZUS-MH comes with building inventories and multi-hazard data sets for each state. User manuals are available in the DC-ROMs, and on-line from NIBS HAZUS web site.
If you are interested in receiving your own HAZUS-MH software you may visit www.fema.gov/hazus for more information.
