Our Mission |
Big government is not simply the size of the budget, or the number of federal programs; it is the role the federal government plays in our daily lives.
We at the Lincoln Heritage Institute will not sit idly by and allow bloated bureaucracies, burdensome tax policies, a failing public education system, an out-of-control regulatory system, and a growing disregard for the rule of law to become an accepted way of life.
Our purpose, through public education, is the revitalization and preservation of our traditional political, social, commercial, and legal environment in which the only limits to achievement are individual ability and effort.

Manufactured Goods Trade with Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Partners Moves into Surplus
The NAM on Wednesday announced that through May, manufactured goods trade with FTA partners was in surplus by nearly a half billion dollars, contrasting sharply with the $176 billion U.S. trade deficit with non-trading partners.
“This surplus reflects an improving trend in trade with FTA partner countries that has been going on for five years,” said NAM President John Engler. “In 2002, the manufactured goods deficit with those countries was $41 billion, but by 2007 the deficit had fallen to $27 billion. And now, so far in 2008, the deficit is gone. We have a surplus.”
Engler used the announcement to renew calls for Congressional action on pending trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea.
